YouTube is a monster now. Its caters to almost 75% of internet traffic, which is massive. There is always space for unique content to get noticed and thus get paid. If you are someone, who is still not on YouTube as a creator, and you have a spark or something unique, its high time, you should get on this platform, like right now.
So YouTube is marathon, not a sprint race. This is going to be a multi-year thing (ie. 3 to 5 years at least) before you gain traction in the platform.
Figure out why you want to create a YouTube channel. Is it for fun? Is it to make money? Both?
