YouTube is a monster now. Its caters to almost 75% of internet traffic, which is massive. There is always space for unique content to get noticed and thus get paid. If you are someone, who is still not on YouTube as a creator, and you have a spark or something unique, its high time, you should get on this platform, like right now.
So YouTube is marathon, not a sprint race. This is going to be a multi-year thing (ie. 3 to 5 years at least) before you gain traction in the platform.
Figure out why you want to create a YouTube channel. Is it for fun? Is it to make money? Both?
Think about what you know, what you love and what you think you have to share. Once you are sure of it, do your homework and build your channel to the best of your ability.
